This book is intended to be an introduction to people interested in healthcare policy and supporting health information systems, especially in the developing world. The contents of each chapter were presented at meetings of the Healthcare Policy and Information Research Project in 2011 within the Waseda Institute of Asia Pacific Studies (WIAPS) of the Waseda University.

It is more suited for use as a textbook for an introductory healthcare policy and systems course at the undergraduate or graduate level, since it provides an overview of healthcare systems and issues in the world, not a more detailed analysis and description of healthcare policy and information. Also, it covers issues more relevant to the developing rather than the developed world, such as those covered in Chapters 2, 3, and 6.
